What is the difference between emergency and urgent care?

Urgent Care
Conditions requiring prompt treatment but can wait for the time it takes to contact your PCP for direction

• Sprained Ankle
• Earache
• Fever

Emergency Care
Results in placing your health or the health of another in serious jeopardy

• Sudden onset of a condition with acute symptoms
• Severe pain
• Suspected heart attack, stroke, poisioning , loss of consciousness, convulsion, suicide attempts

If you need emergency care, go to the nearest medical facility or call 911

What does this mean to you?

If you are a Blue Cross member and find that you need urgent care, please call our office at 978-577-0437. If you are unable to call, you may walk in for the next available appointment. After the urgent care issue has been assessed, an appointment will be provided on the same day.
